I never imagined when I started my artistic journey that I'd be an abstract artist, I was very much a realist. I was one of those people that would look at an abstract or modern piece and say... " I don't get it... what's it supposed to be or mean? "
The shift from realism to abstract happened when I decided to return to college to get a degree in Graphic Design. I was intrigued by abstract art.... the audience that it seemed to attract was equally intriguing. It seemed to me that it attracted the people who were more cutting edge - out of the box thinkers. So I took a contemporary art history class to help me understand and fell in love with it. I was most surprised to learn that many of the famous artists had started as realists.
Abstract art is very much like music that uses only the instruments and plays without words or a story - such as classical or jazz. When you listen to this type of music - your thoughts, feelings and experiences create the story.... one that is uniquely yours. The same with abstract art... it inspires thoughts and feelings without relying on an image to direct your thoughts.
The abstract painting experience for me is one that is beyond description and the only way to attempt to describe it would be that it's like entering into the most beautiful place or connection that I've ever tapped into. If I know I'm not going to be able to be in that "zone" I'd rather not paint otherwise it's just painting instead of a beautiful journey that in the end created a painting.
I encourage everyone to try painting abstract and if you're interested please click on "Available Artwork/Business" and scroll to private lessons for more information or contact me here below for more information and to schedule a lesson. You'll fall in love with it!
